Help with my 9N

Hi All:

I have a project 9N tractor that needs work. I am trying to get the "Hood" off to work on a number of issues. I have drained the fuel tank, removed the bolts holding the "Hood" on as well as removing the battery and cables as well as the radiator cap.

The "Hood" is free to move around but will not clear the steering wheel. Does the wheel need to come off to get the "Hood" off and if so how. I built a custom puller to un-press the wheel but am fearful of applying too much force to get if off.

So first question is does the steering wheel have to come off to get the "Hood" off? If not what am I missing?

Second, if the steering wheel does need to come off, is there a trick?

i've had my hood off three times, and i've never pulled the steering wheel.

for what it's worth, imo, the steering wheel is a bigger problem when putting the hood back on than it is for taking it off.
 
Got a bud who can help with this?
Sometimes an extra set of hands and arms can help.
I have taken them off by myself but cheated it up
using my motor puller and straps.

Sorry, My answer is for Removing the hood.
Never had to remove the steering wheel to clear the hood.
 
You can get the hood off without taking the steering wheel off but it is easier with it off and it only takes a couple of minutes to pull in. I guess the ford shop guys complain about it so on the 8n it's
raised up a bit more for clearance.

Agreed, Kirk! I pull them the same way, &amp; although you CAN remove the hood w/out pulling it, it is MUCH easier both to remove &amp; to replace the hood w/the wheel off!
 
I take the steering wheel off. I have done this on several 9/2Ns. The steering wheel on a 9N is keyed and easy to remove compared to the
splined steering wheel on an 8N. Just don't lose the key.
