My starter was just spinning when I hit the switch. Pulled the starter to check drive
Spins freely. How do I remove the drive? How do I know if working properly?
Cant find my manual.
Thanks
Poike

Pikewi,You have to push the ring on the end of the drive that covers half of the pin back and drive the pin out with a punch to get the drive off.

The end should push towards the starter with little effort, it will not stay pushed tho. You have to push it and at the same time push the pin out> Good Luck

Well this is really odd. I have beat on it, soaked it with liquid wrench , talked to it, and it won't give me tha 1/8 inch of movement I need to get the pin out. Am I missing something?

Well got new bendix on and starter reinstalled. Hit the starter button and nothing, nada not even a click. Connections all clean and tight. Starter button depresses normally. Any ideas?

(quoted from post at 15:58:55 07/28/20) the key switch?
was thinking the original thumb switch. If it starts from a key switch I can't help as that would require power to the solenoid. the original three terminal solenoid requires the small terminal to be grounded.

has all original thumb switch and key switch. I will try jump the thumb switch tomorrow. Used to have to do something like that on my 56 chebbie

All the original key switch does is provide power for the ignition circuit. the thumb switch provides a ground for the wire going to the solenoid. make sure you have it out of gear before you short it to ground! On one of my 8n's at times i have to rotate the thumb switch before it will work. I have another switch but really don't feel like removing the top cover to replace it.
