I finally got "the old gray Mare" running today after a couple of months. I first wanted to address the problem of having to prime the oil pump and solved that with a rebuild kit from this site and a new pickup tube. Then,I got interested in the main and rod bearings,so I measured them with plastigage and all were well within specs.I got sidetracked with new spindle bushings, wheel bearings, carburetor rebuild and all new gaskets, fuel tank, etc. I ran it for about 10 minutes to warm it up well and check for leaking front and rear main seals and saw no leaks, yet. Painting also prolonged the process. It started and ran well with oil pressure at 45lb cold,35 hot idling. The valves were very loose before, but looked new,so I set them to specs and it now runs much more quietly and has good compression,105-110 on all 4. Thanks to the advice of two helpful people on the torque of the oil pump plate bolts, all's well.

Thanks. I was afraid that there would be an inch of gunk in the bottom of the pan,but it was very clean. Evidently, when I got it about 17 years ago,it had a pretty good rebuild.I still have to pull the pump and check all of the parts in there. It works, but it is tired.
