9 n radiator cap

I have a 9n with Ford 9n stamped on the radiator, but the winged ford cap does not fit. This has a larger opening with inner diameter of 1 1/2 inches and outer diameter of 2 1/4 inches. I have tried local ford tractor dealership and nonone has heard of a different size. Can anyone help? Thanks, Paul

I believe the early years had a non pressurized system and a larger cap. When they went to pressure system the radiator hole got smaller. You can see what you have by looking at the overflow pipe.

What Duner said. Only source I'm aware of for the non-pressurized cap is nnalert's.

Yep, there are two systems and caps on the 9N. Don't bother with any CNH dealer, they don't know anything about the old Ford stuff and only want to sell you a new NH Boomer. The early 9N's used the non-pressurized radiator system and the STANT chromed rad cap. When the the pressurized radiator was introduced it also had a new cap. The two caps do not interchange so you probably have the later pressurized 2N cap that was used up thru 8N production. Used OEM chrome STANT caps can be found on ebay -they were also used on early V8's. The STANT capos have a kit (still sold today) to rebuild the seal and disc. If Harold doesn't have one for you, I might. DenCarpenter sells the STANT rebuild kit, p/n B-8100-RK.
