I have a 47 2n that I am stripping down and am going to paint. I plan on going with the Ford Dark Grey and 8n Vermillion Red on the belly. Only place I can get those exact paint colors seem to be online. I live in Atlantic Canada and was wondering if anyone knew of any exact or close colors to those two that are carried in stores, such as Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Home Hardware, Kent.

Thank You!

I'll probably get tarred and feathered for suggesting this on this site......
Buy a rattle can of X-O-Rust, tractor red and see if you like it.
Ace or True Value has it.
Very good paint as far as rattle can goes. Holds up and is durable.
O.K. I'm running for my life..........

9n,2n should be all dark grey,no red. It is your tractor, paint it how you like.

Yes. The true color purists (most of whom are color blind and don't know it) will get you. I can see it all now. It won't be pretty. (;>))

Interesting, I have used XO-Rust red for over 25 years. It is a very close match to the original 8N-100 series red. I used it on all of my implements and at least 2 tractors. Loved it, looked great any way you applied it, bought it buy the gallon, spray cans for touch up and small parts.. I am presently in the process of refreshing paint on one of my tractors and drove 25 miles to the sole remaining Tru-Value in the area and found out it is no longer available! Our Ace stores do not carry it either. Had to settle for Rust-Scat OSHA red by Coronado, color is close and I like it but in testing it just won't brush on, rollers or spray work ok.

You ask....:" wondering if anyone knew of any exact or close colors to those two"

Here's the way I painted my 44 2N . Got the paint in rattle cans @ Home Depot.

Well, yeah, OEM 9N & 2N's were painted all Ford Dark Grey, M2888. The Vermillion wasn't released until the July 1947 8N Model, as was the Ford Medium Grey scheme. Your tractor, your call. TISCO paint is made by Van Sickle paint Co and closely matches anything out there. The 8N Red is matched by the TP-110 IH RED though, all other Ford marked labels are too orangey. CNH does not make the IRON GARD brand in the M2888 shade anymore.

FORD TRACTOR TISCO PAINT SHADES:

9N/2N = TISCO M2888

8N = FORD VERMILLION (RED)M-2822 - TISCO IH TP110 CLOSEST MATCH

8N (AND UP) = FORD MEDIUM GREY TISCO TP-13243

8N (AND UP) = *CNH IRON-GARD© ®™ M1J-957 SE4DS

*NOTE: CNH brand says used '39/62' but that isn't right. This is the FORD MEDIUM GREY and not used on the 39-47 Models. CNH no longer makes a Ford M2888 Dark Grey shade.

Nice looking tractor! Menard's has a section of quart cans of Tractor Paint. I brush paint using "Ford Red" and "Ford Grey". The Red is almost a perfect match, the grey not so much.
