I've only had my 8N for a couple of years now, and once I figured it out it would start perfectly in about 1 or 2 cranks, hot or cold. Now for the last couple of weeks not so much. I tries to start after about 5 or 6 cranks, then about 1 cylinder at a time, of course when that 1 cylinder fires it disengages the starter and I have to try again, again same thing, then 2 cylinders will fire, starter disengages, same thing, then 3 cylinders, on three cylinders it kinds stays running until the 4th kicks in and then it runs like a champ, no flat spots thru out its throttle. I really haven't touched anything, except put on a governor that I rebuilt but that was last year, but it ran good after that. I've put in new plugs as soon as I got it, and also rewired it with new resister and everything was running good after that, the plugs don't have that much time on them .025". So where would be a good place to start? Electrical or fuel.
