OT TV tractor weight

Was watching an episode of "Alaska The Last Frontier" and they were taking a bunch of building material up to the winter range at the head of the bay. Anyway Otto was taking an old John Deere tractor up there to leave it for working there. He was pulling a trailer loaded up with building supplies.

Of course, they had to keep mentioning how dangerous this was and how they could get killed going down that muddy switchback road to the beach. They talked about that John Deere weighing two tons (4,000) pounds and then there was also the weight of the trailer it was pulling. They had to cross some river ice and again were talking about that 4,000 lb tractor. So here is a pic of that little John Deere tractor. Was Otto really that stupid that he thought that thing weighed that much? Four thousand pounds and not even an FEL or an implement on it.

(quoted from post at 15:36:55 06/29/20) It could tractor data has 3900 -4500.

What model are you basing that on? It doesn't look any bigger than an 8N which Tractor Data lists at 2410 to 2717.

In the full dimensions section, TractorData shows a ballasted 8N at just over 4000 lbs. Otto's looks like a 40 and could have some ballast, so 4000 could be in the range. And besides it makes TV drama, which is what they are selling.

Looking again it appears to be an M so it would be lighter than a 40. Maybe ballasted tires, maybe some weight on it, who really knows for sure.

(quoted from post at 08:38:24 06/30/20) Like Jim.ME said, it's all about the drama.

What made me ask about it in the first place was in another episode, Otto had to take a tractor into some area that was strictly controlled. Gas powered vehicles over a certain weight were not allowed in that area. He was going to take an 8N into the area and was worried about the weight. I don't remember what the maximum weight was now but he thought his 8N may be over that weight.

I forget now but somehow he managed to get his 8N weighed and it was nowhere near that maximum weight. So he really over estimated his 8N's weight as well.
