I have a Ford 8N that ran great all winter plowing snow. It is a 12v system. This past week it wouldn't start. Just made one click. I replaced the solenoid. The old selonoid had 4 posts. The new solenoid is an original part with 3 posts. One post is labeled BAT and that is where the cable from the kill switch attaches. The oppisite side is the cable to the starter and has a wire that goes to the amp meter. The middle post, and smallest, has a blue and red wire that goes to the starter button by the gear shift.
The new solenoid is hooked up and the engine turns over and eventually starts. BUT here is the problem: the engine only runs as long as the starter button is pushed down. As soon as I let up on the button it loses spark and quits. If I push the button right away it fires back up and runs. To keep it running I have to keep the starter button depressed. The starter is still spinning but has disengaged while the engine is running.
What is my issue? Thanks in advance for the help.
