Ford 8N rebuilds

I'm rebuilding my Ford 8N engine, and saw they have 3, and 4 ring pistons for sale. I haven't pulled my engine yet, does anyone know if there is an advantage of one ring style over the other? thanks.

Ford used both. Started OUT with four and switched to three. I think that pretty much indicates what their engineers thought.

Either that or the bean-counters. At this remove it's hard to tell.
 
The 4 ring piston has an additional oil ring near the bottom of the piston. Some believe this wipes the cylinders down too much causing excessive wear from lack of lubrication between the pistons and cylinder walls. Some say that is the reason Ford went to the 3 ring piston but I can't verify that.

Some also believe it was because of the the switch from steel to cast iron sleeves.

Nobody really knows but I think it's safe to say 3 ring pistons are the modern engineering standard.
