I have a 2N that I am pretty sure that the original color is Yellow (Tonka truck yellow) and has two headlights that are red. The yellow is the first layer, under a red belly paint scheme and is everywhere. The headlights aren't painted and look "pretty" old. I've tried doing research, maybe an old County tractor..or? Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!

As Bruce said it left the factory gray. Most likely it went to a municipality, where they did a good job of prepping prior to putting their own paint on it. No municipality would have paid triple the regular price for Ford to pull one off the assembly line before the paint booth and then put it back on again after, along with all the special handling for all the other parts.

Yep, like Bruce and Showcrop said, the 9N & 2N OEM paint was ONLY Ford M2888 Dark Grey. The only exception was the 1942 Ford-Ferguson 9N MOTO-TUG model but then that was a standard 9N as painted from the Rouge and sent to a dealer in Columbus, OH to be assembled and painted as Tugs. The Moto-Tugs were first painted in Lusterless Ocean Grey as they were to be used on carriers during WWII and stationed at the Pacific Fleet base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The first Moto-Tugs drove off the EE Schatz line in April, 1943. FORD later built them in standard 9N M2888 Dark Grey and Olive Drab Green as they were then used on military bases and airfields. When the Korean Conflict broke out, surplus Tugs were reconditioned, painted safety/industrial yellow, and reinstated to use as well.

9N/2N = TISCO FORD DARK GREY M-2888

8N = FORD VERMILLION (RED)M-2822 - TISCO IH TP110 CLOSEST MATCH

8N (AND UP) = FORD MEDIUM GREY M-13243 - TISCO TP-240

8N (AND UP) = *CNH IRON-GARD? ?? M1J-957 SE4DS

*NOTE: CNH brand says used '39/62' but that isn't right. This is the FORD MEDIUM GREY and not used on the 39-47 Models. CNH no longer makes a Ford M2888 Dark Grey shade.

That sure looks like the color! I get that 99.99% were grey, but the
yellow is everywhere. More detailed than what I think a farmer might repaint it in the barn. Thanks for the military photo, I think you solved the mystery.
