You have a collector's item there. It's a dual fuel system. In a nutshell the vaporizor uses exhaust manifold heat to preheat kerosene prior to induction into the engine. The engine has to be started on gasoline and run up to temperature before the fuel supply is switched over to kerosene. On shutdown the fuel is again switched back to gasoline to purge the intake of kerosene in preparation for the next cold start. A more complete description and history can be found with a Google search for "Tractor Vaporizing Oil". You can also find some documentation for the 8NAN in the manuals library over on the N Tractor Club site.

Yes, historically TVO tractors were popular in the UK as a way to avoid the road tax on petrol. What you have looks to be a much different design than the 8NAN variant.

This might be of interest. Ralph Johnson worked at Holley and is involved with Smokey's "hot vapor engine". Don't know if any connection to your vaporizing engine.
