Wagner Loader

I have an 8N with a Wagner loader that I have some questions about. First a terminology question. The loader has 2 controllers as 1 unit. One for the entire unit (one way) and one for the bucket (2 way). If I have to replace it, exactly what am I looking for (ie 2 spool controller etc.)

I would like to fix this one. It is leaking between the seams where it is bolted together. I seem to remember this happening in the past and replacing O-rings to fix it. Are there special O-rings for hydraulics or are regular plumbing ones OK?

I guess my memory is wrong...(surprise surprise). I can't find any remains of O-rings. The gasket between the body parts was in very poor shape. Is the gasket and pressure of tightening the body parts all that keeps the oil from leaking out? If so,what would I make the gasket out of? Any other advice would be appreciated.

Sorry for all the posts, but if there is an edit button I can't find it. I found where the O rings are and they seem fine and the leak is not from there. The leak is from 2 parts of the body, so I need to make a gasket. That's all that stops the leaks between the body parts, right? Again, what do I make it out of?

It is called a directional control valve:
  • [*:fe2e796792]The sliding elements that prooduce the flow changes and control cylinder action are called spools.[*:fe2e796792]Your valve has one single acting (SA) spool which controls the single acting cylinders on the dipper stick and one double acting (DA) spool that controls the double acting cylinder(s) on the bucket [*:fe2e796792]The spools are 3 position spring return to center which means when you let go of them they automatically go to the center position [*:fe2e796792]The valve is designed for "open center" operation meaning that when the spools are in the neutral (center) position the center passage in the body is open and inflow from the pump passes straight through the valve and back to the reaservoir[/list:eek::fe2e796792][u:fe2e796792]Paper gasket material[/u:fe2e796792] should be fine and the thinner the better.

Thank you for the very concise explanation. Another question...How many wrong ways can it be put together? I think I have done them all. The leak has stopped but the bucket will only go down and the the dipper stick will go up properly but when let down the relief valve will squeal. have I got the 2 control rods reversed?

Yes, sounds like you have the spools reversed.
