Where to put ammeter on 8-N

[b:4751224dff]My 8-N is a conversion to 12 volt with a neg ground. They disconnected the old ammeter(still good) and left the wires just cut off. How do I reconnect the meter? Where does it hook up? Thanking you for your help.[size=18:4751224dff][/size:4751224dff][/b:4751224dff]

Google "wiring diagrams by JMOR" and scroll down until you find the diagram that fits your tractor.

I would just put a volt meter in it.
First thing you do on a no charge, no
start situation is go grab your
multimeter and check your volts.
Might as well have one built in...

If AMMETER is 'still good', how do you know if the wires were cut off??? WIRING PICTOGRAMS by JMOR has all the correct ways to wire these N's whether 6V or 12V. You can use the existing AMMETER when switching to 12V but some replace with a VOLTMETER. I prefer to use the AMMETER for logical, electrical reasons but you can do whatever you want. If your 8N is with the front mount distributor and you have the OEM 6V coil, and doing a 12V switch out job, you will need to add an external 1-OHM ceramic inline resistor to the circuit as shown. If you replace the coil with a 12V coil you do not need to add the extra resistor. BOTH do require the OEM Ballast Resistor is used. Here are some of scans from JMOR' pictograms, you don't specify if you have the early 8N or late 8N so here's both. BTW, get the complete download (for free)over at 'the other N Series tractor web site'.

Thank you very much. Lots of food for thought. Not sure if tractors is early or late model or how to get resistors etc in this pandemic so I will probably opt for the voltmeter. Thanx again for all the advice!![b:e4d617d7ea][/b:e4d617d7ea]
