Reasonable price for a Ford 501 Sickle Mower?

I'm thinking of selling my Ford 501 sickle mower and would be interested in knowing what I should ask for it. It runs good, but
it is not pretty, having spent most of its time outside and having received a Ford Blue brush job somewhere along the line.

They don't bring much.

My 81 year old first cousin is preparing to sell the 1950 8N with 2X12 plow, sickle bar mower and a few other things bought new by his father in 1950. Plow and mower have almost 0 time but have been sitting
(inside) for 60+ years. I'm not interested in anything but have offered to help him sell all. I told him that he should negotiate to sell the tractor and/or plow and make sure that the buyer loads the mower
before loading the tractor or plow just to get rid of it.

know the $ info is not helpful, but I bought one 40 years ago for $250.......but if you buy it, BE SURE you get all the parts, such as these easily lost parts in this picture!

The earlier ones had flat end on that bracket instead of ball. Has to have on left side to lift bar, the rite side helps stabilize movement.

They still get good money for one of
those mowers here.
Of course that depends on a few things.
As jmor says, you gotta have all the
attaching parts. Length of sickle adds or
subtracts as does condition of your bar -
sickle teeth, ledger plates good pitman
arm, belt and belt guard, etc.
I had a 7 footer and wish I hadn't sold
it. Mine was nice, quasi restored,
everything good, good older repaint.
I got $500 for it about 8 years ago.
Am sure I could get that much for another
one in equal condition here.

I bought a 501 many years ago at auction, planning to use it to cut small brush. I've never assembled or mounted it as it needs a few repairs and some TLC. My questions is: can you run the sickle while it is tilted all the way up? I've broken many pitman bars by raising my old Massey Ferguson mower too far, and thought since the 501 has no pitman, it should work in any position.

(quoted from post at 14:58:44 05/31/20) My mistake - apparently I have a 515 mower. Whatever it is, there is no pitman.

A 515 will run with the bar stood up. 501 has a pitman, so no, it will not.

Well, I just bought one less than 2 weeks ago. My haybine was broke down and I wanted something as a backup that was simple and didn't take up too much space. This one had been sitting in a barn since the 1980's, but looked to be in good shape and all there. Plus, it was only 20 minutes away. Offered $250 and was accepted. Guy got a couple of higher offers after he accepted mine. Lubed and oiled everything. Hooked it up, and mowed down an old, weedy field. Never mowed with a simple sickle before and I had heard horror stories about plugging, etc... but I was really pleased with how it cut.
