Actual fuel level in the bowl

MS TSX carbs. Anyone know where the fuel level should be inside the bowl? Say relative to the air intake center.

JMOR, it's interesting that the top of that dirt stain (or whatever) is just about at the fuel level. At least on that carburetor.

With similar setup, mine is at a lower level. I am about even
with the flat boss at the choke pivot shaft.
Should I attempt a correction?

so, if running fine, I personally would leave it be.
 
It is partially broke. When working hard (disk harrow), it will cut out, light use OK. Seems like fuel starvation.
We did check fuel delivery into the carb inlet- we have a gusher of gas.
Your picture got me thinking, if you set that hose down into a container, what is the rate of gas flow to expect?
I think that would be a test of the needle and seat's capacity to deliver gas. It should be more that the Nebraska full power test of 2.7 gallons/hour? Anything less will restrict power I assume. Is this a valid diagnostic test?

yes, very much so. it's the first test recommended for fuel flow, as pulling the fuel line off the carb doesn't indicate whether the float is functioning properly.

s HFJ says and when measuring out the bowl drain (hose) you are also including any flowrestriction at the screen on the elbow at carb inlet

And just to put that in perspective 1/2 pt per minute = 3.5 GPH, well above the Nebraska fule usage test result of 2.7 GPH. At 1/3 pt per minute you get 2.5 GPH just a biscuit shy of the Nebraska test results.

xactly and my often quoted numbers of a pint in 2 to 3 minutes is better flow that Neb test requires and in my experience my N uses about 1/2 fuel of the Neb test (almost certainly not working as hard). Additionally my years ago measurements show that, as one might expect, a clean system will flow more than Neb test show is required.

I would dremove carb and set the float level to the correct setting, and also check for fuel in the float!
 
Ok, we tested the time to drain a pint 4:42. Did it again, same.
Took the inlet elbow out. No screen, it originally should have had a cylindrical screen?
I thought maybe some crud is sitting on top of the the fuel seat hole.
We scratched around in there with wire picks and brushes, flushed out with brake cleaner straw.

Re-test, we got better, at 4:14 time to drain a pint. Still not 2-3 minutes.

So yes, we need to take it apart, clean and set the float. Then don't re-test so I can stop worrying about it.
