Fuel valve wheel screw

I finished mowing and went to turn off the fuel, and the valve wheel was gone. Somewhere out there in the couple of acres I mowed is a wheel and a screw, and presumably a washer.
I have a few other sediment bowl assemblies around, so I decided to cannibalize a replacement. None of the screws fit the valve shaft.
Finally, I went to a 9N I have under repair and robbed the screw from it, and it fit. Nice. But I am still short a screw.
What gives here? Different size screws for the same part?
Has anyone else had this problem?
And where does one go to buy these tiny little screws?
I realize there are other solutions, such as just swapping out the whole assembly, but that doesn't answer the issue.

The only thing I can think of is you tried to use a screw from an aftermarket assembly that used a metric screw. You could take the assembly from the 9N to the hardware store and try to find a screw that will fit. Then pick out a washer and maybe even a lock washer.

Well the Modern view isn't back up to snuff yet.
I just clicked on Reply -- to this post, but I hadn't yet logged in.

In the past the login fields page would open

This time, I was sent to a page where I clicked on Login

ANYWAY
About your little screw.
What Jim said . . .
But get a multi toothed star washer.

Mine was missing the whole knob so I managed to make one.
I did this about six years ago man does time fly I might have used locktite on the screw too, I can't remember. I put a little pointer on the knob which comes in handy,
