Afternoon everyone!

I just pulled apart my brakes and axles and found one of the brake shoe seats (and the oval piece) was welded on and has rebroken. I'm not a welder but I'm sure rewelding something isn't ideal. Unfortunately for what it is it seems to be a pretty expensive piece. Has anyone found a fix for this plate that doesn't require welding?

Probably should contact seller and ask for a view of the other side, though.

Not uncommon to find this. The brake support assembly keeps the shoes aligned, keeping the brake pad parallel to the braking surface of the drum. The part that broke free takes a lot of abuse as it is where the shoes are spread apart during breaking. Add to this, as braking becomes poorer, the first reaction of most is to stomp on the pedal harder and harder. After 70 years of this the spot welds break free. I'd say probably 20 percent of the brakes I've been into on these old Fords have at least one of these pieces broken free.

I usually weld them up, adding a bit to the good side also.

Can't offer a solution outside of welding, as I'd be concerned any other way would hold up. Best I can say is try to find someone to weld this up. Will take all of a minute to weld.

Do you have a welding shop in your area? From that photo, it doesn't look like the previous person did a very good job of welding that. The welding shop will tell you if they think they can fix it right or not.
