oil pump bolts

Does anyone know the torque for the oil pump bolts? The nearest I could find was 4.7 ft lbs. I appreciate any help I can get.

I don't know how much help this will be, but over in the left column on this site is an area for Research & Info. In there, is Torque Values. It's broken down into the grade and size of bolt. B.T.W. nothing is listed for as little as 4.7 ft/lbs.
 
It shows 27lb for 5/15",but doesn't list 1/4",so I'll extrapolate the difference from 5/16 and 3/8". Thanks.

I hope you understand how to extrapolate cross sectional area of a round fastener....

Really, just snug them up with a short wrench and forget torque. :idea:

I found torque recommendations from several suppliers and for grade 8 bolts,from 7 lbs to 11 lbs was recommended. I set them
at 10 and tied them with safety wire.

Assume you're talking about the three oil pump cover to body bolts. These s/b 1/4-20 x 5/8.

Be careful looking up data and just winging it. You still torqued them too high. Probably not a big deal as most smaller bolts get tightened too much most of the time, and they usually take it OK. I just wouldn't do it in such a critical spot.

To use a torque spec, be sure to identify the bolts correctly. I can't image in any way these would be a grade 8. I'd worry about stripping out the threaded holes in the body or stretching the bolt itself.

My torque charts shows 1/4-20 cap screws in a grade 5 to be 6.3 - 7.3 ft lbs, and in a grade 8 to be 9 - 10 ft lbs.

TOH had it right, just snug them up good.

i like to tighten them till something snaps, and then back it off a half a turn :) :idea:

I went through three sets of bolts and finally got it right. At the point that I can feel it snapping,I back off. Thanks.
