Ford 9N sleeve install.

Hello. We got the sleeves out of a 9N block with a puller ordered from just 8n's. The sleeves we removed have 038 on the outer wall. I ordered new .040 sleeves and then read there's a fair bit of risk in installing them. Had found out about old hokie install tool for the thin wall sleeves but he said he's back ordered for months and can't take any new orders. Also with sleeves saying 038 does this mean 040 are too big? I don't have a bore gauge what is my best coarse of action? Thanks.

I dont know what the 038 means but S-1135A is the Tisco part number for the .040 wall sleeves used in the N-series tractors. I would expect it to be fine but if in doubt measure OD. Use a micrometer not a caliper and measure at 120 degree intervals around both top and bottom ends. Average the six values - should be pretty dam close to 3.2675.

Thanks old hokie, I'm the one that called you this afternoon. This is my first 9n and my first multi cylinder engine build. I'm excited but also nervous. That sleeve driver seems like it would take the worry right out of it and I've read into a lot of the tricks, cold sleeves, hot block, etc but no method seems as sure footed as having the right tools. The sleeves that came out were mirror shine inside and pistons rattled like crazy in them when wiggling them from the top.

I don't want to sell it, but I might loan it.
My email is open on modern view if you would like to discuss it.

Royse I sent an email with some basic contact info. Hope I sent it to the right place haha. Would be a godsend if you were willing to loan it. Hope to get my own after hokie is able to take some more orders. Me and my brother are having a lit of fun working on the little N and it may be the start of a new hobby. As there's a lot of cheap N tractors in my area in need of some tlc.

Glad we could make contact and get it arranged.
Best of luck with the project. They're addicting! :)

Thanks I can already tell. A lot of original parts in mine. Std main and rod bearings. Original style "clip type" valve keepers. But someone along the line was nice enough to put adjustable lifters in it. Valve seats are a bit carbed up in spots but valves aren't cracked. Going to do a light lap and reuse them.
