1952 8N fixin' to get some love and attention

i bought two 8N's a few months ago, both for parts. new wires, plugs and points filed and got them both to run. i picked the best from the two and combined a few parts and got this old gal. she has a busted block that has been repaired in the past, and the cyl head had a crack at the water jacket. JB weld is holding that for the time being. i've made a list of things to fix or repair, have a bunch of parts on the way. its been steam cleaned, and will be getting a fresh coat of paint. Green and Yeller of course

kidding, it should be against the law to paint a Ford that color combo
going to try a can of IH white and IH red from tractor supply, if i like the color then i'll stick with it and buy more paint. the IH white has been said to be a little too white, but this is not going to be a complete restoration, simply want a good running tractor that is clean enough to look good, and rough enough to still work as needed.

first up is pulling the rear wheels and bearings. hopefully i can get away with new bearings and seals and not hubs, axles or both. wishful thinking only gets you so far, so we will see when its taken apart

based on reading here and other forums, i went ahead and bought Tisco medium grey, cost is almost the same and most people seem to be happy with it. likely staying with the IH red since the Ford reds you see these days have too much orange look to them.

Let us know when you get it all done up!
Here's a pic of my 1952 in Vermillion red and medium gray.

I don't think IH ever painted the top of the hood white... Ford got it right with there gray run with that life will be good...

I do paint the red IH 2150 rouge red : )

"I don't think IH ever painted the top of the hood white"

What a dirty mess it would have been if they did!
They did paint their demonstrators white, and the yellow and white cubs too.
But those certainly were not the norm. Pics borrowed from the web.

Great looking late model 8N, Royce.

Reminds me of my 52, except mine has 16" tires on the front and no longer looks like yours as it serves as my quad.

nice looking machines. the grey paint will not be here until the middle of June, i can wait since i am going to have a lot of work. if i get finished before the paint arrives i'll prime the sheet metal and wait for the final sand prep and paint when it gets here. stuck a muffler on it yesterday, i put a vertical stack on it with no muffler, and while it was ok just putting around when i used the finishing mower Saturday it had my ears ringing. muffler quieted it down enough.

I'll start taking the fenders and hood off today if the wife lets me in the shop after i get home from work. I will start on repairs, then chassis prep and paint first.
my neighbor has shown zero interest in my dark grey 46 model, but when he saw this 52 model he was all over it. turns out he learned to drive on an 8N as a kid. he even knew what the correct color grey is supposed to be!!!
