Ford Jubilee kicking my butt

I am not much of a social media person I don t typically post anything anywhere but do a lot of reading. My old 53 ford jubilee tractor I have had for 30 years has always been faithful but this springs startup hasn t went so well. I realize it s not a n series but it basically is mine is still all stock 6 volt was rebuilt a few years ago and has always served well. While not a mechanic I am somewhat mechanically inclined and am befuzzeled by what s going on with this tractor. Went thru my startup ritual and it fired right up but was way down on power. Cleaned points and reset made new pug wires as old ones looked tired took off carb and cleaned out noticed needle valve was not dropping freely but was changed last year put everything back together and restarted still not right. Pulled plug wires off one at a time it s only running on 1and 4. Good fire at all plugs checked compression over 100 on all cylinders double checked plug wire for correct routing still no change when plug wires pulled on 2 or 3 dies when you pull 1 or 4. Fresh gas I am at witts end any help would be appreciated. Thanks. c

I will try that but have double checked firing order I have it wired 1243 counterclockwise I will admit I m taking for granted the 1 marked on top of the cap is correct as I didn t check that when I pulled it apart.

Pull the distributor cap and watch which way the distributor turns when you punch the starter button.

hats why I told him to swap 2 & 3. :)

Fixed running great again. I trusted the distributor cap which had a one with a arrow turning counter clockwise but low and behold it turns clockwise. I
should have figured that out but I?m getting old. Thx for the help appreciated very much.

Did you rebuild set the timing correctly after you rebuilt distributor? The NAA (Jubilee) electrical system is basically a side mount 8N. Timing setting is different: 8N = 4? BTDC; NAA/600 = 8? BTDC; 800 = 5? BTDC. Use a timing light. New plug wires - verify firing order. Verify battery meets specific gravity and sustains a full charge under load. Don't assume just because you have a 6V battery the electrical is set correctly for a 6V/POS GRN system. Get a copy of the Clymer/I&T FO-19 Manual and OEM NAA Owner's Manual. Breaker Point Gap = .025" +/- .001"; Spark Plug Gap = .027" +/- .001". Leave carb alone. If it passes fuel flow test make any adjustments after you fix electrical. Test one system at a time.

unread replies - a common issue with classic view. but hey, the people who routinely miss those replies see no benefits to any other system, so...
