Can an 8n be converted to spin on

I have an 8n ford it has the cartridge
style filter i was wondering if anyone
has ever converted on to a spin on
filter. If so were do you get the kit
to change it over?
Is it hard to change to a spin on
filter?

Thanks

There a number of conversions/adapters on e-bay, the 8N I picked up a couple of years ago has an aluminum mount with the proper hole sized to limit the flow through the filter.

"Ford 2N 9N 8N Spin On Oil Filter Adapter Zero Mess w/NEW Brass Tubing Connectors"

The purist don't like them, but it works for me.

Yes, there are kits out there and some of them have the correct size orifice to keep the filter from robbing oil from the engine.

But......

Given that the same canister filter is used in Porsche's and Mercedes and are readily available, I've never seen anything to be gained from a spin-on.

If you can fab a mount and are able to work with the lines (1/4" inverted flare fittings, brake line for pre-metric American cars is the same) WIX makes a filter "head" that works with their special filters designed for bypass filtration use.

There's a restrictive orifice built into each filter so it gets replaced every time the filter does, no worries about it clogging and having to clean it.

WIX 27555 base or "head".

Why would you want to change something that has been working well for 60 some years? I don't mind changing the oil and filters in my tractors. I'm keeping a good machine in good working order.

If you only change your filter once a year, are you saying you can't spare the time it takes to install a new cartridge? Do you dislike working on your tractor that much?

'm with Cary on this one!

I agree with JMOR and Caryc -why reinvent the wheel? An oil change takes what, a half an hour? It's your tractor and your time and money and so you can do whatever you want, but I'd spend my time and money on other PM projects like a tune-up, hydraulic pump flush and clean, radiator drain and fill, and checking all wiring for some examples. Steering loose? time to get into it. Time to rebuild the carb? Just saying...If'N it were me...

I would save my energy to fix something that needs to be fixed. Lots of other engines have used the same canister and filter. I no longer have them but my 60's Porches had that same filter.
