'52 8N with Magneto 12v conversion, now starting problems

I just did a 12v conversion on my '52 8N. After wiring it all up, I had it running and then installed a momentary switch as a ground out for the magneto. Started the tractor up and tested the kill switch. It worked. Haven't been able to get the tractor to start since. I have spark, fuel, and all that. I've switched wiring around and still can not get it to fire. Wondering if something happened to the magneto even though I'm getting spark.

Should I just convert to an electronic ignition at this point?

If you have spark and fuel I would check for a flooded condition, Remove the spark plugs and clean or replace them and try again.

I pulled the breather tube just now and fuel spilled out. It did that yesterday and I cleaned the carb after checking the float. The float had no fuel inside it, so not failing there. Needle seemed to seat fine. I didn't realize it was still flooding. What could cause it to still be getting so much fuel in the bowl?

Ok. So I pulled the plugs, hit them with the torch to clean the deposits, gapped the plugs to .025", cycled the engine to clear the cylinders, and she started up finally.

With the old 6v system I had to hold the choke to get her to start and I'm guessing that with the 12v it doesn't need that anymore. I'll have to figure out her sweet spot for starting now that the upgrade is done.

Thanks HCooke for sending me in the right direction!

On my 8n with magneto, once in while the impulse coupling hangs up and she will not start. tap on mag then I hear the impulse coupling working she will start right up. Sometimes I think the 12 volts is turning it over too fast for the impulse coupling to work right. But then what do I know! I know I really like the magneto over a conventional distributor.
Never heard of an electronic ignition set up for a magneto.

gas pouring out of the breather tube is from too much choke. it's normal.

Never heard of a magneto on a side distributor tractor engine, only on front distributor tractors and a 52 would have the side distributor. The mag was a war time item only on 2N tractors but some indrustial engines based on the tractor engine used that front mount mag but never heard of and built for a side mount on engines from 1950 to 1952. Can somebody clarify for me if they ever made a mag for a side distributor tractor?

you forget that ford made a lot of industrial engines that were later installed into tractors. I have one such 52 with a magneto. It has an industralial data plate on it. it is a side mount block with a front dist front cover and magneto drive on it. I also have another magneto that was made for the side mount engines that I am planning on installing on my 50 side mount dist this spring.

I just did not know if they ever made that indrustial engine with a side mount or not that was why I was asking. So if they did make a side mount mag (did not know if ever made) would be easy to change. Why would want to thow I do not understand.

ne can just remove the side mount distributor and install the side mount magneto, easy change over and i will do one the weather gets warmer. Had it installed ounce but the mag itself had problems and now that I got it repaired I will install it just fore the heck of it.
