Posted the pictures the other day of my water pump pulley, ran her the other day to clear snow and the belt is very loose, I would like to order the part in advance so I have a timeline when to take it apart and so I won?t be dead in the water with a lane full of snow, my question is what do I get? Just the pulley? Hard to find just the pulley without the water pump. Or should I just bite the bullet and order the whole assembly? As I mentioned before this is becoming a passionate project for myself but the wife doesn?t agree (money wise). I?ll post a picture below, thank you in advance.

mitchmac2n; I went back and found the discussion about the clearance to remove your belt with photos of the crank pulley. I never found anything about the pump pulley. The discussion got around to you needing a 5/8 inch alternator pulley. Now you're talking about a water pump pulley or a water pump. What happened?

Hi Mitchmac2n, the pictures in your previous post show a crankshaft pulley, and ratchet bolt,( as Royse advised) not a water pump pulley.

A 2n with 12 volt alternator takes a 44 1/8 in long belt, 9n8620b3-sl

My 8n side mount 12 volt, one wire, alternator has a 2 1/2 in diameter pulley.

The clearance on the front axle would be better if you grind off the ratchet part of the bolt, or just replace it with a standard bolt.( unless you use your hand crank).

I've carefully pried on a bent 8n sheet metal crankshaft pulley before and got it straightend out. Not perfect, but usable.

Sorry I meant crank pulley. I will attempt what Soaked said in the previous reply, hopefully this weekend. It has been in the -20?s C the past few days but supposed to warm up by Sunday!

Now your Loggin!

Yes Bob it does look like my old water pump belt caused a shine on the bottom.
Not sure where that pulley came from.
I always put a 5/8 ths wide belt on.
And it should ride on the sides only.

Remember the front cover on your engine would not be a good place to pry. Its not a very thick part. It is above the centerline of your crankshaft. The oil pan is below the centerline, of your crankshaft, and much stronger. I used the edge of the axle support with a pry bar.

Taking the spark plugs out will make the engine easy to turn with a socket wrench.

I've had to use a puller to remove the crank pulley on the 8ns I've worked on.
They don't just slide off.

My ratchet bolt in the picture fits a 1 5/16 in socket.
