Didn't know what I was missing, until I bit the bullet and bought this Ford 3000.
This sucker can push some snow, in short order!!! (Diesel Power!!)
Only a couple of things left to fix......then, unless I break sompin' fixen' it....he is 'GOOD TO GO'!!!!
New dash cluster on it's way here......then install the new Halogen Lights, that ROYSE gave me. (already fixed all the other things that I wanted to get done)
Like I tol' you guys before........"Not cheap, but......worth every penny!!!

Next "fix" - build a wing off the side of the bucket and you can
scrap the snow off the top of the motorhome! No climbing! :lol:

(quoted from post at 21:13:03 02/13/20) another storm moving in over the weekend, make sure the fuel tank is full!!

Evening R.G.;
Funny you should mention that...about the fuel.
B.G.'s tank still has about a quarter of a tank in it since I first started plowing with it. The PO, put fuel in for me, the day before I bought it, and I have not had to fill the tank yet!!! I put about 3 gals in, and it still has fuel left from when the PO put his fuel in it.
Diesel gets GREAT mileage, for all that plowing!!

Gary :wink: [/b]

The diesels do use some fuel Gary.

Here's some numbers from the Nebraska
Tests.

8N - Max HP - 26.9
Fuel use @ max HP - 2.352 gph
HP Hrs/gal - 11.14

3000 Gas - Max HP - 37.84
Fuel use @ max HP - 3.257 gph
HP Hrs/gal - 11.62

3000 Diesel - Max HP 39.2
Fuel use @ Max HP - 2.421 gph
HP Hrs/gal - 16.19

But diesel fuel costs more than gas too.

Here's a little factoid I've always found
interesting.
The 3000 gas engine is a 158 CI whereas
the 3000 diesel engine is a 175 CI.

3000 G makes .240 hp/ci
3000 D makes .224 hp/ci
So much for the oft made comment that
diesels make more HP than a gasser will.
They don't, at least not on these Fords.
For comparison, an 8N makes about .215
hp/ci.
Not too bad considering they are most of
30 years older and a flattie to boot.

It would be interesting to see the difference in torque specs between the gas and diesel. I haven't found that spec yet but I will look some more.

I know what I am not missing Gary - burning diesel plowing snow!!!

So far this year we have received just ONE snowfall that accumulated enough to even think about plowing and it was only an inch plus. A quick morning run down and back on the road with the bucket in float skimmed that and the asphalt was melted clean by noon. My 35 year old back blade is bent and twisted beyond use and I'm having a hard time justifying buying a replacement

Which do you prefer on your snow cake - syrup with nuts, whipped cream, or both

While you are at it look up the mean time to engine overhaul

Usually a gas engine will make more hp than a diesel of equal. Engine size(ci) with possibly exception of a turbocharged diesel.

we also might consider a gas engine could be working harder, or at higher load/rpm to do the same job a diesel can do. mush like a small block v8 vs a big block. they both can do the same work, but the big block is barely breaking a sweat while the small block is screaming at full load.

just a theory, i have no facts to support my idea

Sounds like your having waaay more fun on that machine than your lettin on Gary... Bet your neighbors are jealous too...

PatrickB;
I like plowing snow with B.G.!!!! AND, YEP....It is a LOT quicker than 'Hermie the 2N was.
As for the neighbors......As they saw what I could do with B.G.,....they started asking me to do the same on their driveways, and they chip in with a few $$$'s to pay for the Fuel and time.

Off-road Diesel, is about $2.00 per gal.,...and gas here in town, is $2.46 per gal.!!
(PLUS....all the fun I'm havin' !!!!!!!!!!) :lol:

Gary :D

They have spec sheets over on NTC that shows torque for the 158G and 175D used in the 3000/3400.
Also one for the 192G 201D used in the early 4000/4400.
Thanks to Ed Gooding for the photos.

Well in the case of my two 3 cylinder Kubota lawn tractors it is pretty darn close. One is a diesel, one is gasoline, and they are built around the same engine block. Both are normally aspirated, produce 21HP @ 3000 RPM, and spec out like this:

G2460 gas: bore and stroke 68mm x 68mm = 45.2 CID = 2.152 HP/cubic inch
G2160 diesel : bore and stroke 67mm x 73.6mm = 47.48 CID = 2.261 HP/ cubic inch

Almost no precipitation here for a month now. Glad to see you are getting a good use from the 3000!

Stay warm and cozy!

Whoops - did that ratio upside down.

Gas = .464 HP/CID
Diesel = .442 HP/CID
