Battery connection

Where does the positive lead from the battery connect to the frame. From YT is bought one of those Ground straps (Description: For 8N, 9N, 2N. Ground Strap. 5.5 inches center to center.). Its pretty short.

Also, my hour meter is toast. It's 2 1/8 inches and fits in the center lower part of dash. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement?

pfeathers,The best place to hook a ground cable is one of the top 7/16" bolts of the bell housing for a good ground. I t does not have to be a strap type cable as a round insulated battery cable will be fine just a long as it is big enough,like a 0, a 0/0.or a 1/0 cable.
Google a HOBBS hour meter for a replacement.

Ground lead attached close to Starter.....

here it was connected from the factory depends on what tractor and year of mfg .

Orignal setup on 9N & 2N were positive ground 6 volt with that short braided ground cable and it bolted to one of the bolts on the right side that holds the hood to the dash. Never a problem with that location as long as connection is kept clean. Owner of both a 41 9N and a 44 2N bought new in May of 44. Never around a 8N so no idea where bolt to but is same 6 volt positive ground.

Attach the ground to any part of the heavy metal frame. No sheet metal.

Hour meters (Ford called it a Proofmeter) can be purchased here on YT.

Doing it as I said was from factory the cable fastened to the cast part of the grill-steering gear with the hood on the outside of the cast part with the cable fastining on inside of the cast piece.

Thanks for all the replies. Ground strap secured. I searched for Hobbs and finally ended up calling Honeywell as they are the maker of the Hobbs meters. Guy said they have discontinued all of their meters except the LM series. He also said that only meter that worked with 6 volts was a 85000 series, specifically 85331, problem is they are exorbitantly expensive. In the end I found a round hour meter on Amazon (Runleader HM009 DC 6V to 80V) for $13 bucks.

I had all the electrical hooked up and just for fun, I did a voltage drop across the negative lead to the solenoid to see if I had any drain on the battery. I was pulling about 2 volts drain on the battery. After disconnecting wires, I found that my ammeter (terminal type) was leaking to ground. So I ordered a new one along with the hour meter.

Got a bunch more projects coming: front mount distributor, governor, carb rebuild, then I will pretty much be able to start this old beast.

Might need some expert advise, thanks for responding.
