Hi all, can someone please tell me where these parts go, I can't find them on schematic diagrams. I found them inside the transmission case of a 1952 8n. thanks :)

I'm a resent owner of a 2-N....those components look like the inboard remnants of the starter...????

Good morning: I am "just thinking" here; could those parts actually have been in the bell housing? Not likely to have been in the actual transmission case, IMHO.

I am just wondering how starter parts would come off the armature while being in the tractor. strange one.

I am not sure, the tractor was sitting at me neighbors house for years, He gave it to me because He has aggressive brain cancer and will not have time to get it going. I just replaced the flywheel gear, I am getting close to getting it running, cross your fingers :)

the parts are from the bendix. i am under the impression that it's a fairly common occurrence.

yes I totally know that, I cant figure out how it can come off the armature shaft of the starter???, next to impossible. can you explain that one. the parts would have to thrown in there.

What's the big deal about it, Rust, it happens all the time, since the tractors were new.

NOT at all uncommon to split an "N" and find "spare" starter parts in the flywheel housing.

NOT sure if you are familiar with "N" starters, but the drive is installed "backwards" of most all more modern starters.

An there's NO "outboard" "drive end" bearing to stop parts from falling off.

The gear is "inboard", but can break and fall off, down to the bottom of the clutch housing, the clip and spring and washer are at the far end from the starter and can easily break, stretch, or unsnap, and fall off and down.

Armature shaft just floats if the bendix breaks parts fall off. No one is going to split a tractor to find the parts. After 68 years I'm surprised that's all that was in there.

(quoted from post at 11:07:00 02/09/20) ok u explained it, I did not know they were open ended. is that fords better idea?

"is that fords better idea?"

LOL, they must have thought so, they made automotive starters like that from the "Model T" all the way up to the late 50's/early 60's era.
