Clutch Removal Tool

Anyone know where to find a clutch compressor, used to remove and re-install the clutch from a 2N without distorting the cover plate? Any suggested workarounds for relieving the spring pressure? Thanks.

Loosen the bolts evenly a little at a time and don't worry about it. That's what's been done with probably 99% of them over the years.

If you want, you can tap little hardwood wedges between the release fingers and the stamped steel pressure plate "cover" to hold the springs compressed, some new or re-man pressure plates are shipped that way for easy installation.

Just back the cover bolts off evenly and in stages. No special tool needed.

You can do as the others suggested.
You can also use wood shims between the fingers and the plate cover. Make them just thick enough so there is slight pressure to hold them in place while the pressure plate is bolted to the flywheel. When you unbolt it they will tighten in there fairly secure. When you bolt it back on, slip them back out.
Many pressure plates come with shims in them from the factory. Note the red plastic shims in this new PP. These fall out when you tighten it down.

Pressure plate presses are few and far between these days but the springs in a vintage Ford tractor pressure are not heavy so one is not really needed.

Follow the advise below.

If they are the same as used on heavy equipment or trucks you may be able to buy used one from a tool man. Going to the tool mans storage shop and paying cash can save you half price.
