Radiator cap shooting water?

Hi all, I finally got my 8n running again. I'll post a pic in a minute... Two issues now that she is running again. I filled my Radiator started her up and she is running pretty smooth. BUT after she runs for about 4-5 minutes I start to get water coming out of the radiator cap. The way it is shaped it shoots water right back at me the small overflow tube under the hood is pinched off (I don't know if the water is coming from there or not), but I never had any problems before I took it all apart. I did put the thermostat in, but that was a while ago and don't remember which way I put it in.... I assume I put it in right, but that is the only thing I touched on the cooling system. If the thermostat was backwards would that cause the water to shoot out the top?

And my second issue is the steering.. Tearing It down to replace the Ring gear, I had to remove all the steering arms. Now I can turn to the left but I can't go past straight when I try to go right. I think the arms need to be attached opposite position of each other? Any ideas.

The #1 cause of overheating coolant is overfilling, OR under filling. In the current issue of The N-News, Bruce(VA) has an HOW-TO article on the radiator, coolant, and thermostat. Do you have a thermostat correctly installed? The thermostat 'pointy' end goes towards the radiator in the UPPER HOSE nearest the radiator inlet port. Use a hose clamp over the hose to snug the device in place so it doesn't slide down to the head end. The steering drag links are different lengths on each side. Did you get them reversed upon reinstalling? Get out your Essential Manuals and read more.

You really should get that overflow tube opened up. You don't want hot coolant spraying back at you or anyone else.

YEP, it sprayed me pretty good yesterday. Looking at a few photos the overflow tube basically just drains out the bottom. Is that correct? I can reroute it pretty easy

yes. get it down to below the level of the bottom of the fan so any overflow doesn't end up getting blown onto stuff that it doesn't belong on.

Ok, so after a few discussions on line here, I was pretty much thinking I had this kicked...But of course I have been there before. Sunday I took the tractor out to do some Brush Hogging, I was getting a little spatter of water on the hood, and I could hear it gurgling. But Thought that was the norm. Unfortunately it got so hot she shut down on me, and now won't start. She will crank, but not start. All the paint on the head burnt off as well.

So I have already ordered a new Water pump, a 6 blade fan, a Shroud, (and already replaced the hoses). So I am going to completely replace the cooling system. When it was hot I felt the Radiator and it was cool. It should be hot, Right? I am thinking the Radiator may be blocked, and of course now I may need a new Head gasket as well.

Haven't had a chance to look at anything else yet, I put in in my shop to keep it out of the weather. Any ideas?

this isn't good, you got her pretty hot. you could be looking at damage on piston rings, bearings etc. the oil needs to be replaced since you cooked the oil in the process. I'd be surprised if you come out of this without extensive damage.
pull that radiator and have it cleaned. could be clogged internally
not trying to be a negative Nancy
