Do some of the 8N 12V conversion kits assume reuse the 46 1/8? belt from generator equipped front mount distributor 8Ns? I?m noticing that my 1949
8N with a front mount, which was converted to 12V by the PO with an unknown (probably Tisco, PO loved TSC parts) 63A 10si-knockoff kit, takes the
46 1/8? belt specified by this site for a generator-equipped 8N, not the 44 1/8? belt sold by this site and others for use with their 12V kit. The 44? belt is
WAAAAAY too snug to even get past the NUT on the alternator when fully retracted (well, as far as physically possible before the alternator hits the
exhaust manifold), let alone pry onto the pulley. My first thought was that maybe some kits assume reuse of the longer belt, since I notice many kits
don?t include a belt?
Related aside, but let me also be the 9800th person to say that the space to slide the fan belt over the lower pulley is obnoxiously narrow.
