I left my 8N down at my daughters place so the SIL could plow snow.
He called me tonight and said the tractor would not start, "has plenty of gas" he said.
I went down there and the sediment bowl was empty, your out of gas says I, he said it has plenty here look, as he takes the radiator cap off..... I said "thats the radiator" boy did he feel foolish, I have showed him where the gas tank was.
Now this is the same SIL that had the horrendous motorcycle accident last year, when they took his skull cap off and put it into his abdomen for a month TBI.
So I told him make this mistake again I'll get mad. Told him straight to the barn and park it.
I keep the radiator just above the fins so he couldn't have added any more than a couple of quarts. I plan to change the AF this weekend.
My question is could a couple of quarts of gas hurt anything? Water pump seals come to mind.
What say you?

I had a friend, who in a senior moment put antifreeze in his gas tank. I helped him drain the gas tank and correct the problem. We wasted a
lot of antifreeze and gas that day.

A sad underlying story... If the accident is the reason for the gaff (or has he always been out in left field when it comes to tractors and such?) I would be more concerned about other such mistakes happening elsewhere... like leaving the gas on in the oven, driving on the wrong side of the road etc.

I've had a couple of friends put diesel in there motorcycles and trucks over the years and they never had an accident like your SIL,did you show him where to add gas and check the oil or the radiator when you
loaned him the tractor? The gas fill is not out in the open so it could be an honest mistake, give him a lesson in tractor servicing and if it happens again take your tractor home, you know Orville and Wilbur
didn't fly the first time they tried it either.

I would either run it with the rad cap off for a few hours or drain the fluid and out of the radiator. The gas is unlikely to enter the engine, as it will float to the top of the radiator.

Replace the SIL. Spare ones might be available at the local Legion Club. ;-)

My ex wife did that to her grand dad's 8n. I floated the gas out of the radiator with water. But she had to tell grand daddy she did.

Not to hijack the tread but this reminds me of the first time I drove my buddies 57 Chevy. I was born in the 60's so didn't have much exposure to the cars from the 50's. I drove the car all over town and just had a ball. I pulled into the gas station to put gas in it. I spent 5 minutes looking for the fill nozzle. Finally I got down on the ground and looked at the tank to see where the pipe from the tank went. I sure was surprised to find that the tail fin had that little secret compartment. Still makes me laugh.

Just the opposite! I have the utmost respect and my family has a long history serving. I was suggesting that the daughter could probably find a new partner with some common sense and world experience. Sorry, it was a poor joke, though. The lack of common sense and mechanical know how in young men today, especially in the under 30 crowd completely disheartens me. My wife teaches at the college level and the stories she brings home would just leave you shaking your head.

You remind me of the time someone brought one in to my Dad's service station in the 70's. He got out the words "It's under...." when I flipped it open. I said "Dad used to have one."

[i:7001f4cf0d]"so your saying Veterans are morons ?"[/i:7001f4cf0d]

certainly, not all veterans are morons. but, like nearly every other demographic, [i:7001f4cf0d]some[/i:7001f4cf0d] are.

Yeh, and a 1956 chevy gas fill was even more elusive well hidden behind the left tail light and also had a hidden latch for the tail light.
