My 3 lift arms won't go all the way down... please help

So as some of you may remember, I had just put my 8n into the garage for the winter. I took the blade off, and left it in the barn.

When it starts snowing, my wife asks me when am I going to go plow the snow. So I go start the tractor in the garage, lift the arms, and drive it over to the barn. When I get to the rear blade, I can't get the arms to drop enough. I do finally get the blade on, with the help of a hoist and floor jack.

Here is the major problem: even with the blade on, the rear arms won't drop all of the way.

I am thinking that I may have started up the tractor and raised the arms, without allowing the oil to start moving in the lift pump.

Any ideas on what I should check for? I can take pics. Before this issue started, the arms attached to the top cover would almost lay parallel to the ground, when in the down position. Now, they are probably 20-30 degrees up.

ee if it acts differently in Draft vs Position control

I will go out again today to double check, but if I recall, it did act differently. I tried engaging draft when plowing snow. It dug in so hard, the tires were literally spinning on the ice.

If you can put the touch control lever in the down position and lift up on the implement with a hoist or something it may come loose and go down. I had that type of thing happen to me a couple of times. After replacing the cam follower pin and building up the worn area and grinding back to original profile the cam, never happened again.

My thinking is a badly worn cam follower pin can fall off of the cam and get jammed beside it.

Just a thought:)

Normal for position over draft. Byt sounds like reliefe valve on pump is stuck. To get to it have to take cover off on right site and reach in where you cannot get a hand in. Possibly raising with hoist and droping with lift lever in down will get it working, I say possibly but not too likely. My 2 N got like that but I had to do other work on it so the top cover was off and found that valve sticking. I bought a new one but then just found the old was sticking and as I was going through the pump as well I had everything apart to where I could get everything cleaned up good. If you do manage to get it working and as much heat as you can get on it from a torpedo type heater might free up, (just a drop of moisture could freeze it up) and thawed out or fluid warmed up then replace fluid right away. Did have NAA, 4000 and 5000 and position hardly ever used. I think it is just gummy or frozen

Hi Mike, This is a broken 8n pump, I put
a tweezers in the little cup where the
control rod goes in. The shop manual
calls the teeter totter part, the
rocker. The rocker needs to move twards
the back, to open the exhaust valve, to
lower the lift arms. (All the way
forward, touching the pump, opens the
intake valve, for the "up" position for
the lift arms.)

The rocker is right above the drain
plug.

Its common for it to get stuck. It may
be frozen in water, or all gooked up.

It's possible to drain the water out the
bottom 3 plugs, till it changes to trans
fluid, then tighten up.

With your hand on the bottom of the
control rod, you should feel the rocker
move with the touch control handle
movement.( not running of course)
This will only cost you a few shop
towels to try.

ith 20,000 posts, one would think that you might know that the relief valve has absolutely nothing to do with this man's problem.. Maybe read more than post in future?
