Winter project week 4 - what the?

My 8N project got sidetracked this week by a washer and dryer replacement. Wife and I decided a new set would make a good Christmas present for ourselves this year. What started as a simple change out ended up being a total redo of the laundry room; paint, flooring, and new plumbing. I did find some shop time make a hitch and tighten up the three point arms. I have lots of small trailers around and using the N to move them is handy. I made a slip-over ball adapter in 1-7/8 and 2" for the draw bar. I have a Hosfeild bender so set it up and bent a couple chain loops to weld on it.

You can make all kinds of stiff with that bender and quickly too. Next I tightened up the ends of the three point arms. Mine were very loose. I found a guide on this forum that said to cut out a 1/4 inch section of the ring, hammer the opening shut and weld it. It worked great.
The trick is getting 100% fill with the weld while not leaving a bead on the inside of the ring that prevents the ball from moving freely. One was perfect the other just a bit tight, but it will wear in I'm sure. A great example of how much valuable info is on this site, and I appreciate it.

Nice work on the N, to remodel something like washroom would take me forever...

I use to replace the lift arm ends till the ball end got so expensive then add my time... I now do as you did and move on with life... After I slit them I put them in a big vice and put the squeeze on'em to get the fit I like.. Its better to under shoot the cut than to overshoot...

Off topic, but you might know - is that Wheels Thru Time motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley NC worth seeing? I'm thinking about a tour down south in January and wondered if it was a good stop.

I gave up scooters in 1990 before it became cool to ride one... SO I have never had a reason to visit them... I belong to the order of the battered boot " I walked" (survived)

My 1969 FLH I sold in 1990 to help my mom and dad my dad was eat with cancer...




I also had a a 61 are 63 (I' have gone brain dead at the moment) pan head that's in the American Classic Motorcycle Museum in Asheboro, NC... Kids, boats, campers and life in general got in the way... But I an still alive to remember it that's more than I can say about some of the other scooter trash I rode with...

Beautiful bike. Life's full of choices, sounds like you've had your share of them to make. I had to lay one down in traffic years ago, got a bit of road rash but otherwise very lucky. Now I just putt around our small town once in a while on my kid's Sportster, no more highway riding.

I like to look at them all but especially the really old ones out of the teens and 20's. We have the National Motorcycle Museum here in Iowa and they have some really rare and weird bikes. The kind you work on for a day to ride an hour. Like some tractors I've owned.

Check their schedule I believe they are closed over the winter, not much going on in Maggie Valley in the winter.
