Flat spots on governor balls

I be that with a few hours of meticulous file work you could get another ten years out of them!

Most any tractor parts store should have them #358081. Or like Bob says McMaster/Carr.

Since you have the entire unit apart, I suggest you perform a rebuild on it while in there. Basic kit listed for $79 at nnalert's -SEE LINK. A set of four steel 5/8"
balls only is listed at $3.45 . McM-Carr is a bargain at 50 for under $10 but you'll ever use them all in a lifetime or three unless you have a fleet of N's or can
find a dozen others who might share the cost.

FORD N GOVERNOR KIT

(quoted from post at 16:40:28 12/06/19) I took apart the governor today on this 46 2N I'm working on. Discovered twp little flat spots on each ball. Are my balls worn out or do you think i have another 73 years of wear.

1 each to replace with new. I wouldn't even think twice about it. Find something(s) else the machine needs and place an order and replace. For $4 not something you want to have come back and give you trouble later.

Easy fix, just replace the balls. You should also consider the upper and lower race as well. Those flat spots are there because they hung up and stopped rotating a while ago. It suggests that they nested against the race and started riding in one spot. So while you have it apart do the right thing and get it back to full function.

You will be happy you did.

GOVERNOR REPAIR KIT

I just opened up and inspected my governor. The balls only had small flat spots that were not too bad. The lower and upper races were totally pitted and chewed up. I suspect the previous owner replaced just the balls to get it running to sell it. I just ordered the whole rebuild kit. Only want to do this job once!
