8n starter problems help

i have a 8n changed to 12 volts wouldnt start thought starter was bad been sitting a while, took to my starter man checked it out placed new brushes in it and it worked fine at his shop, got home would do anything but click, got new solenoid and it still wont do anything but click ,it is a one pole solenoid intended to short out to start thats what was on it,when i touch one pole wire to ground it will spark and click any thoughts i must be doing something wrong?

are u sure your battery is fully charged? a 12 volt battery at 100% charge should have about 12.65 volts. the symptoms u describe are what a weak battery will do.

how about all the wiring connections - are they all clean, bright and tight?

have u tried jumping battery power straight to the starter? (tractor in neutral, of course)

Do a voltage drop test. Have someone press the starter button for you while you hold your meter on the starter lug and a good ground. Compare this to +to- on your battery. You should be losing less than a volt. If it is more than about .6 volts clean your connections.

Loosen the starter bolts and try it. I had
the same problem. Removed
starter,disassembled it,and re-installed
it and no more problem. I still don't know
if the drive was not right or what. My
neighbor also had the same problem and an
old Ford tractor mechanic found that it
had the wrong brushes.

My tractor had the same problem and you
could loosen the starter bolts and it
would work. I removed the starter,
disassembled it,and re-installed it and no
more problem.

That as a symptom of dirty battery connections. If you don't have one, get a battery post and clamp cleaning tool from your local auto supply. Take the 10 minutes to clean them and prove me wrong :)
