Update - NAA PTO Shaft Replacement

I posted about a problem I was having replacing the PTO shaft on my NAA. The new shaft when installed would not disengage. It seemed to bind the last 1/4 inch or so going in and would go into engage position and not come out. The supplier swapped it out and the new shaft went in and engages and disengages as it should. Thanks to the help here.

You were correct Old Hokie, the spline length didn't matter. The replacement shaft was also 1/2 inch longer than the original, but it worked fine. Apparently the first replacement shaft just wasn't machined correctly.

Thanks again.

Just to make sure I was clear, the splines on the internal part of the shaft were 1/2 inch longer, not the entire shaft.

Glad its resolved. Not too surprising the first shaft had a defect. The splines are machined with a root and flank clearance of just a few thousandths and it doesn't take much twist or undercut along the length to cause the sort of issue you experienced.
