Long story short ford 8n hood is full of holes on the lower lip. Rotted out. Anybody make a patches for this?

If not, how are the fitment of the aftermarket hoods? It's gonna need alot of work to get it back to where it should be and I'm not an expert metal worker.

Depends on what you mean by "back to be what it should be" I used fiberglass, but mine is a worker not a show girl!

Yup, I used filler and it came out nice. Since it won't be parked outside anymore I'm not worried about it.

asically putting steel back on the lower lip that looks appropriate. It will get painted but wont get a perfect paint job. Basically just the tins are gonna get media blasted, damage fixed (if possible) and painted. Not gonna be a show quality paint job. Gonna be a working tractor paint job but I want the repair to be appropriate and long term.

The tractor was burned a barn fire at my parents place. Thankfully the tractor was not in the barn (about 20-30 feet away outside) but it did quite a bit of damage to the rubber bits facing the fire. It burnt the right side tires off it, nuked the wiring, distributor, ignition wires, coil, cap, and etc. Any place the tin was questionable it blew holes in it. Alot of stuff survived though like the radiator hoses didn t burn nor did the air cleaner boots etc. So I think the tractor is fixable (grandpaws tractor), just gonna take some work. Parents used to farm but are in their early 80 s and aren t gonna rebuild the barn or anything farmwise. They will still need something to brush hog pastures with grade the driveway etc. Mom is absolutely against getting a SCUT to do this so gonna fix the 8n.

So again wondering if anybody makes patch pieces for this area? If no how is the fitment of aftermarket hoods?

Tractor might be living outside once in awhile. I want the repair to hold up if the tractor is kept outside. They are gonna build a larger garage but it may or may not have a home in the garage when built.

Don't know of any commercially available patches. I have cut patches off of a donor hood before. Lot of work to bring a rotted hood back.

Never used a aftermarket hood, but would assume quality of metal and fit up would be questionable - at best. I thought Dennis Carpenter was gonna do 8N hoods at one point, but don't believe he has. Those would be about the only new hoods I would trust.

My suggestion is to start by making a running tractor, then deal with sheet metal if your still up for it.
Did I Mention - a lot of work to bring a hood back.

I don't think it will be too hard to get running. Gonna have to most likely go through the entire distributor, along with all the wiring, coil, plus wires and such.

Once you get the old boy running, my suggestion would be to go with an aftermarket hood. The original lasted 70 some odd years, so if you could get half that out of an aftermarket one you would be in the clover. The one item that might cause trouble would be if the dog leg on the hot side of the tractor got distorted.
