Can you remove the total distributor package, distributor, cap and coil as a unit. After changing points, condenser, etc. can you replace it as a unit once again provided you have the tang aligned. Or would you recommend in removing and replacing each piece individually.
Thank you,

I remove the coil, then the distributor.

For installation, I've put it back on distributor first then the coil and I've also put it back on as a unit.

Putting it back on as a unit requires some skill in maneuvering, but it guarantees that nothing slips or gets misaligned between the coil and distributor.

If you put a little dab of non-hardening Permatex on the front of the gasket and place it on the distributor, then install the distributor, the gasket will stay in place while you snap the coil on.

So basically which one is easier for you.
