8N Funk Clutch/Flywheel Questions

Greetings,

New member here from Kansas. I have a late 40's, 6 Cylinder Funk conversion 8N Tractor. I have been trying to find the information on the Flywheel/Clutch. I have called everywhere that I could hope to find information.

[b:1c0bf6f468]Do they use the Stock 8N Components?[/b:1c0bf6f468]

I need a new ring-gear. But, I didn't want to split the tractor until I had possibly found the information and potential availability on the components I would need. That way I'm not sitting around with a split tractor indefinitely.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A few of the local guys say that it would [i:1c0bf6f468]probably[/i:1c0bf6f468] use the stock 8N parts. Others seemed very skeptical. It's not like they had a lot of parts offered back then, [u:1c0bf6f468]"make due with what you had."[/u:1c0bf6f468]

I don't know, but if I were doing a conversion I would want to use the flywheel from the engine I was putting in. Have you tried contacting Derek at Just 8N's and more?

My son had a 6cyl funk and I used a ford pickup clutch disc. So yes use pickup or truck parts. I have a NOS water pump for a early 6 cyl ford to sell.

have not had to open mine up yet. I do not know what kit or parts this man is using to adapt his V8. Link: https://youtu.be/u-Ht03z4eoE

Ring gear is the same as the pickup or truck with that engine. Clutch and pressure plate most likely is the same as a truck as well, but you should verify by matching up with the one you took out. Otherwise it would be an 8N clutch.

Just a heads up. It does have a 112 tooth ring gear. It uses an
industrial/agricultural clutch which are still available through
Abilene Machine Inc. I found some ring gears from passenger
trucks and heavy trucks behind the flathead straight 6?s. All of
which had a different internal diameter on the ring gear. Since
I couldn?t find a ring gear with the correct internal diameter, we
machined the external diameter of the flywheel to accept the
different ring gear. The ring gear that was originally on my
flywheel looked machined to fit, but machined too large. It was
heavily welded to the flywheel. I have it bolted back up, with
the new ring gear! It has excellent starter drive engagement.
What a heck of a problem, but luckily I had some friends with
large machines to help machine my components to make
them fit. If you have any questions, I will try to field them.

id you figure out anything on the starter drive? I hear other Funk owners mention not finding one. Plan on pulling and matching up my 48 Funk before it is a problem.

pdate: I took the starter to a local starter shop but did not figure out the starter drives origin. Sometime after re-installing the starter I spoke with a Funk guru who said Funk used a Minneapolis Moline starter drive. As of 3/31/2022 I cannot confirm or deny this.
