Delco 10si altenator

I have a 3 wire Delco 10si alternator on my tractor and the volt meter has dropped from 14 to 12 volts when running. I assume the problem is in the voltage regulator inside the case. I went on Ebay to find a rebuild kit but all the kits there are for 1 wire alternators! I assume the voltage regulators in the kit is different from mine. Is there any way you can use the 1 wire kit to rebuild a 3 wire alternator? Why are there no 3 wire kits shown?
What is the difference actually in the internal parts between these 2 alternators? Is it just in wiring inside the case? Please educate me!

Just the regulator. Some one wire kits have different one wire regs than others, in that some do wire differently inside alt and others are simple drop in and go, with no re-wiring inside. # wire reg are still available.

Got a couple of these a couple of years ago, work fine. I only use three wire, not a fan of one wire at all.

In my opinion, those things are cheap. Just get another one rather than wasting time to find parts and overhaul it. When you are fixing it, you end up with a 'fixed' unit, rather than a new warrantied one.

It would be rare for the voltage regulator to be defective... They have a test hole sometimes referred to as a D hole... You insert a small screwdriver in the D hole to ground the regulator if it charges at full capacity its the regulator if not its something else in the alternator...

As simple as they are you will run across one that bites... Sometimes you are better off to just buy a replacement the price is not that bad... Back in the day we repaired them because they were expensive to replace..

$70 bucks are so in the 70's to mid 80's was big money you could do a lot of fix'n for that kind of money but not so much today...

As to parts availability, I answered your other post.

At 12 Volts it probably isn't charging at all, mite B as simple as a worn-out brush.

Most likely the diode trio easy to test when disassembled.can also test the regulator with a battery and a fast charger while it is out. Diode trio used to be about 5 bucks at the parts store.

I have already rebuilt the alternator using a kit I bought on Ebay over
a year ago and don't know if the regulator is a 1 or3 wire model! I did
not know there was a difference. I will put it on the tractor tomorrow
and hope it works!
If the regulator is a 1 wire model, will I damage anything by plugging
in the #1 and #2 wires? Could I just leave them disconnected and use it?
I can see why lots of folks would use a simple 1 wire model if all you
have to do is connect the main bat lead to somewhere there is a 12v
connection to charge the battery. Glad to learn that there is a battery
drain with 1 wire models, thanks to you guys here on this site.
Thanks for all the info, I have learned a lot and found that rebuilding
the unit is quite simple once you have the parts

Might be a few days late on this. I had a similar problem and I just bought a new alternator on amazon. It was like sixty something bucks. I just took the pulley off the old one and put it on the new one. I'll link it.
Alternator I bought.

I dont think that link worked. Just google
