I needed to disconnect the drag links from the pitman arms so I used a tip from an old timer here. I loosened the nut on the back and backed it off a little to keep the threads covered. Then I inserted a steel wedge (an old axe head) between the nut and the tractor body and tapped the pitman arm with a hammer. Those things popped loose with no trouble at all.

I wish I could remember who posted that tip here but I can't. So, cheers to him for a great tip. Please identify yourself Sir.

I don't buy that but now that you have read the tip yes it simple so simple you don't need a useless pickle fork to fudge it up...

OK, I guess I'm one of the stupid ones but, I'm still glad it worked.

The idea of a hammer and anvil has been around a lot longer than Ford Tractors Caryc. And using a tool to buck something has been around a long time too. Just ask Rosie the Riviter.
It doesn't mean you have special powers of discernment if you learned it on your own and it doesn't mean you're stupid if you read about it online first.
If 10 guys read it first there's 10 guys who read it here and thought, "Well yeah. That's how I've always done it." and moved on to the next post.
It's too simple so we don't have to make a big deal out of this or try to discover who invented it.
By the way, He was Mark Hendershot long before he changed his handle to WillyN.

My guess is for every 10 guys who had to learn that by reading it here there are 10 others who didn't have to learn it.
It was intuitive obvious what had to be done and they just went ahead and did it on their own.

I actually purchased a pickle fork at Napa yesterday morning. But, when I went out to use it, I remembered that tip and thought I'd give it a try. I had a rusty old axe head that really did the trick. I didn't want to screw up those boots on them. They actually looked pretty good.

It was a Willy-N tip that never caught on, I spec because folks like to beat on a pickle fork and tear chit up. I revived it and gave Willy-N his due credit... Then John added it to his tips and did a great job at doing it better... Where Willy-N picked it up I dunno I do rate it in the top 10 tips of all time...
Most were not around when Willy-N was here playing with his N's he could come up with some neat chit... His pictures of N parts were priceless...
It does not matter where it came from its a simple tip so simple its looked over...
