Ford 9N foot start button not acting right

Hello! I am in the process of rebuilding the steering on a 9N. While I have it apart, I noticed the foot push button to the starter is not acting right. All the parts are there. You push the button and a shaft slides down with a small washer on it, that washer pushes the dog ear piece, that piece pushes a long rod and goes to the front. When I was using this 9N I noticed it was extremely hard to start, I had to mash like hell on the button to get it to turn over. The dog ear peice has fairly worn groves in it from the washer. Can I find one of these dog ear peices or am I going to have to build it up with something? Thanks!

Sounds like someone has cobbled
something together, the neighbor
series didn't come with a foot start
button just transmission or dash
mounted as far as I know

The start button looks like an old high beam button from an old car. It is located right above the gear shifter on the tramsmission. It's orriginal. It matches the pics on here.

It is called a thumb switch, which operates a manual switch. the linkage from the button to the mechanical switch goes bad.

Rex, that part you are talking about is P.N. 2N 11515, Lever (starter push). Someone on here may have one or search Ebay. But they would all be used, so maybe the best thing is to take it to a welding shop and have it built back up.
