I picked up an early 8n at auction ($875), runs decent, starts good, step up Sherman gear, newer tires (6 ply). Now the problem, they started and ran it at auction for about 5 seconds and I didn't notice hear the slight engine knock, number 4 cylinder. I've been running a year and no worse that I notice. Its got good oil pressure at hot idle, no smoke. Not an exhaust leak problem. It also goes away under slight load or when working. Seems maybe the worst at cold idle. I'm thinking rod bearing. The question is, can I pull the front end and cam gear cover, remove pan to access bearing without having problems with gaskets and seals? What are the odds that I can replace the bearing with same size number and eliminate noise. Any chance it may be lifter? I don't want to see rod going out the side of block. Thanks for any suggestions. Bill
