1947 8N Ford

First, Welcome Aboard, matey. Next, technically your tractor is a 1948 8N Model, if it is an 8N. Does it have a 4-speed transmission with POSITION CONTROL hydraulics? Though the 8N was first released in July, 1947, it is defined as the new 1948 model. "8" was designated to be the next year model, "N" was simply Ford's nomenclature for defining 'Tractor Module'. The DRAFT CONTROL/POSITION CONTROL selector lever is located on the RH side of the center housing, under the seat. If you don't have that lever and you have a 3-speed transmission, then you have 9N or 2N model, and only have DRAFT control. The LH lower lever is the PTO selector -ON or OFF. You MUST depress the clutch pedal to engage/disengage the PTO shaft lever. The RH lever is the 3-pt Quadrant Control Lever to raise and lower the 3-pt with. As a newbie, it is highly recommended by many of us to invest in the essential manuals. BEFORE you operate your tractor, I'd advise to read the OEM Ford 8N Operator's Manual to fully understand the tractor, the safety features, parts, and the systems with definitions. You don't want to get injured or worse, death, or do damage to the machine that could turn into a major repair project. ALL these manuals are available at just 8n's
