8N Starter Drive

I am in the process or replacing the starter drive assembly on the starter of my 52 8N. I am having some difficulty getting the pin that holds the assembly to the starter shaft stared so I drive the pin in. The washer on the assembly just slightly blocks the hole for the pin so I can't get the pin started.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can pull the washer down just a little so I can get the pin started? Thanks.

It helps to grind a slight taper to one end of the pin.the washer moves but not very much.

Good luck grinding the pin it was no help to me... Its a booger to press the drive down to install the pin : (

Okay, I finally managed to get the pin started by putting the drive in a vice and compressing it enough to get the pin started. Thanks
