Got my gears replaced, bearings replaced with races and put it all back together with new clutch. Works great except....no 4th gear
whatsoever. Any thoughts?

Put in 4th and pull the shift cover...

I didn't have a shift rail set screw properly in its hole.

Does Ace or Home Depot have the detent (roller) balls?

All the balls used on a N tractor are 3/8" It should be a common hardware item BUT the first time I needed one no one local stocked them : (

Thru the years I have busted up 100's of roller bearings for the balls 3/8" is not a common size so my stash was worthless : (

I brought a set of these this set has the governor balls : )

I spec you can find them on the net are a CNH dealer.... You can get them cheap on amazon are ebay, I like amazon prime : )

3/8" balls are the same size as used in the throttle rod. They are standard slingshot ammo available in any sporting goods store.
