I bought a replacement distributor cap (P/N: NCA12106A) for my 8n, but it doesn t fit because the mounting surface of the cap is larger than that of the distributor. The distributor must have been changed at some point to an aftermarket one. The image I have attached shows that the timing gear cover has also been changed. Note the yellow paint remnants.
The ID tag on the distributor has been broken off, so I have no reference to use in locating a cap to fit it. At this point it looks like buying a new distributor just to get a cap to fit might be where I m headed. Then there s the question will a 8N12127B distributor fit the gear cover.
Does anyone recognize something in the picture that might help in identifying if the gear cover is one with OEM dimensions, and any experience with the aftermarket distributor? The outside diameter of this distributor is 3 3/8".
