Broke the key in the ignition last fall, been jumping over the key to the resistor. Bad battery over winter/spring, didnt use it for 7 months. Using battery from the garage it started last week jumping the switch then replaced key and it started a 2nd time. Had to finish some other chores turned off the tractor and came back a couple hours later. Would not start thought maybe battery gave all she had during the last two starts. Came back to cabin couple days ago with brand new battery. Tractor still wont start. Sounds like she is turning over well, cleaned out carb(hope i didnt damage it but i took it real easy except for cardboard gasket between float and top which tore a little in order to separate carb). Put in new plugs. Still wont start. Usually i dont even have to choke it or give it much gas to start. What could cause it to start twice then not start?

6v or 12v?

Front or side distributor?

Does your spark jump 14" in open air?

With the bolt in the carb bowl removed,
will the fuel flow fill a pint jar in
under 2 minutes?

At least 2 gallons of fresh gas in the
tank?

You started out with an electrical problem and jumped into the fuel system. Why? Getting a good battery ($90-125)and a new ignition switch ($25)should have been your priority. You could do a fuel flow test for verification but I suspect your issue is still electrical. Like Bruce said, is it 6V or 12V, front mount or side mount? Mucked up wiring is 99.98% of all non-starting issues.

If it's not starting test for power to the coil. If it's not there with the key on, you back up from there to the next spot with a connection. And replace the broken ignition switch with an automotive switch. Bruce meant 1/4 inch.

I agree with ASEguy. It always started easy, you put in a new key switch, it started once, now won't. I would re-check the connections to that new switch. Then like he said find where you are loosing battery to the coil. The new switch may be bad, SHOCK!
