Farmer Dan and I spent a week in June going through numerous sets and brands of points. The results were that the once most reliable set of points, the ECHLIN brand sold at NAPA as CS-35 were now junk. We couldn't get them timed. The best front mount points now are the ones CNH sells, p/n number escapes me, and/or the Standard Ignition set. The latter can be found on ebay and average costs is about $16 for all. The TISCO points worked too but don't have the phenolic rubbing block, they're plastic. That being said, the last TISCO set I had lasted me 6 years. All the other NAPA parts are great -all MADE IN THE USA.

nybody with a grain of salt & a file or Dremel tool can make any set of points work! Shouldn't have to, but this is today!

What was the last production engine made that used a CB ignition? If you think today is bad just imagine what it's going to be in another decade.

I can definitely confirm that at least some of the Echlin sets are less than desirable.

I was able to get them decently well aligned and timed, unlike what I assume was a TSC off the shelf set that was on it from previous owner.

At least the rubbing block pivot was drilled perpendicular on the NAPA set. The cheapo ones that were in it tilted the contact down from the pivot so horribly that it wasn't even able to be timed.

I bought 3 sets of points from New Holland. They all went in with no problem. I now have 3 distributors timed and ready to go to a new home. I have two with electronics but need to make a rig to test them with.

Here at River Dale Farm Shop we typically do 100-150 spark engine tractor tuneups+ a year. About 3-4 years ago we tried ignition products from B W D, available many at auto part(Car Quest, O Reilly and many more). The quality of these have been outstanding, do not know how long that will last, probably go the same way as all our other good parts, and that does not necessarily mean offshore products are all bad as well as USA products are all good. Like anything else in life, don't get stuck in a rut, there always may be something better around the next corner. Good Luck.

Are you aware that SMP Products supplies Standard Ignition, Blue Streak, Neihoff, NAPA Echlin, BWD, GP Sorenson and probably a few other brands of ignition parts?
