I have a friend of a friend saying his '37 60 AMP car starter will fit a 9N tractor as they were the same. I don't agree. The "9N" prefix defines it as being a unique feature to the 9N tractor. If a Ford part crossed over to other modules it would be listed as such.

NOT sure how close to interchanging without the "drive" those starters would be, but the size and tooth count on a "N" tractor starter drive is WAY different than what a '37 Ford 60 HP V8 requires.

There is a guy who wrote a book on the Early V8 and claims the 9N starter can swap out with '37 car. I confirmed today that's not possible like I told him when he first asked. The 9N starter is 2" shorter and with a 1/4" smaller barrel diameter than the V8-60. If a Ford part was used/crossed over to a different module, the MPC's would list them both. It is the Ford UPC prefix code that defines the module on a part. Both units a have 60-AMP output but don't crossover.
